School Safety
My father was a teacher for 32 years, my sister is an elementary school teacher, and my mom, aunt and uncle worked in various capacities within Hilliard City Schools. There is nothing in this world that I value more than my family, friends, and community. That is why I believe school safety is paramount. We must ensure that our schools provide a safe environment for those we care about the most because not only do safe schools create the best possible space to learn, but protecting our children and neighbors is simply the right thing to do.
In order to achieve the highest levels of safety we have:
Added full time safety officers to decrease response time call for our elementary schools
Improved communications systems and installed emergency door locking mechanisms
Increased the number of full-time school counselors so there is a dedicated professional in every building every day. This, along with additional school psychologists, has provided additional resources to address bullying and mental health concerns.
We must do everything in our power to secure our schools and we have started by implementing the policies listed above. There is nothing more important than making sure our students and staff are safe at school, and we will continue to ensure this is the case.
